One of the worlds best-selling recording artists, selling over 200 million records, Nana Mouskouri, is coming to the River Rock Casino Resort in Vancouver on March 28, 2014, part of her year-long Happy Birthday Tour.
Mouskouri was born in Greece and studied at Athens Academy of Music. She released her first album 55 years ago, in 1958. In 1961 she was invited to sing in the German soundtrack, Weisse Rosen aus Athen, which would become a hit song, selling over one million copies in Germany and translated into several songs and become one of her best-known songs.
A year later, in 1962, Quincy Jones, a major record producer, flew Mouskouri to New York to record a jazz album. Her second English album was recorded and released in 1965 after teaming up with legend, Harry Belafonte.
Throughout the 1970’s Mouskouri toured and her popularity soared. In 1975, Book of Songs, sold millions worldwide. Her biggest hit with Canadians was in 1979 when she released, Roses and Sunshine. She released five more albums throughout the 1980’s.
Mouskouri was a member of the European Parliament from 1994-1999and has served as a Unicef Goodwill Ambassador since 1993. In May 2013, Mouskouri received an honourary degree from the McGill University in Montreal.
