Once again we bid farewell to one of the greatest weekends of the gay music festival season, the . One of the most anticipated and fastest growing party series on the North American gay circuit scene, Matinee San Diego Festival did not disappoint! The hot, hotter and hottest gathered en masse to celebrate all that is fabulous about the gay circuit scene.
With a variety of events to choose from on any given weekend it is becoming increasingly challenging to choose exactly which ones to grace with your presence and precious free time. The organizers of these events are pulling out all the stops to make their events bigger and better than the rest. There are some events that continue to deliver exactly what it is about the scene that makes it unique, fun, and utterly wonderfully addictive and thrilling, and Matinee has, once again, shown that they are more than capable of continuing to deliver all of this and more.
With a focus on creating a much more intimate environment than the classic party series, Matinee San Diego Festival was a cut above the rest and delivered something more personal and different than most other events. The incredible parties, the intimate feel, and the details ensured Matinee San Diego Festival cemented Matinee’s reputation as one of the greatest organizers of circuit parties in the market.
If social media was the barometer of the weekend, Labour Day was holding strong at the kick-off of the weekend, with posts flooding social channels about guys arriving on mass in New Orleans for Southern Decadence. While that even has a long standing tradition of where to be, the bold, beautiful, and who’s who of the circuit world blasted back with epic and amazing posts on their social channels, lighting up Matinee San Diego Festival as the best Labour Day long weekend choice. Decisions that were well made and well played!
The weekend attracted an insatiable amount of men from all over the United States, Canada, and points across the world. The weekend kicked off with La Leche, a milk filled, white fluid fiesta of frolics and frivolities that put other events to shame. There was a plethora of man shaped talent in all shapes and sizes coming together to do what we on the circuit scene do best: party hard.
The event managed to combine all of the elements of a perfect circuit party while being hosting the daily main events at popular local nightclubs, giving the whole event a much more approachable feel. What was noticeably different about this Matinee series, as opposed to the New York and Las Vegas events, was the focus on really connecting with the local gay community by making it a more intimate and personal event without losing the excitement of a large party series.
The three pool parties created the ideal environment to recover from the previous nights antics, enjoy some of the beautiful San Diego sunshine, spend quality time with friends, and make new connections with other partygoers in a really social environment, while also allowing the opportunity to gear up for the evening mind-blowing main events, followed by exceptional after parties. The entire weekend was perfectly planned and designed to cater to everyone from beginners on the circuit scene to the most seasoned partygoers. The combination of pool parties, main events, and after parties meant there was no time to even consider getting any sleep, or not going to the next event without a spectacular costume change. Matinee consistently impressed with their ability to make each individual event spectacular, unique, and just utterly fun.
On a serious note, there’s no denying that the sheer scale of party drug intake at any circuit party is always concerning and caries huge risks. Matinee is no different than any others that happen anywhere around the world. Circuiting safely and prioritizing the safety of yourself and your friends should always be a priority. Over 85% of circuit party attendees will take drugs over the course of the event, and the average person will consume four different varieties of drugs during this time. There is a startling increase in the number of deaths associated with this kind of recreational drug use. Unfortunately, it has become an accepted part of circuit culture. Fortunately, there were no major events at Matinee San Diego Festival, which demonstrates how close this particular circuit family is by watching out for each other, in addition to having responsible and prepared organizers managing an event that has the potential to get out of control very quickly and without warning.
It was the exceptional attention to detail that made the weekend incredible. The weekend passes made entry to events simple and quick, and the cashless system at the host hotel made purchases quicker and easier with no need to carry around cash or ID. Buses ran to the Saturday and Sunday after parties taking out the need to organize your own ride. Plus for the die-hard muscle studs, a free weekend pass to the Boulevard Fitness Club was just that extra touch to allow those in need to maintain their abs after a nights hard partying.
The combination of a series of exceptional and unforgettable parties, a fantastic and reasonable price-point, attention to details for seamless fun, and bonuses, a gorgeous host hotel, and fantastic organization made for an amazing weekend that lived up to the hype that has crowned Matinee as being the best of one of the greatest party series on the circuit.
